Subang Volunteers Lead Coastal Cleanup for International Zero Waste Day in Lazi

Subang volunteers conducted a coastal cleanup along the shores of Barangays Simacolong and Minalulan in Lazi, Siquijor on March 30, 2024 in observance of International Zero Waste Day.

The activity was led by Subang President Peter John C. Enorio, together with Subang Community Affairs Department Deputy Director Jerecho Jose P. Sumalpong and Subang - Negros Oriental Provincial Director Dyn Michael M. Lozano.

Volunteers collected various forms of waste that had accumulated along the shoreline, including plastic bottles, cans, cellophane plastics, and cigarette packaging. The activity focused on removing litter from the coastal environment while drawing attention to the importance of responsible waste management.

International Zero Waste Day provides an opportunity for communities to reflect on waste generation, consumption, and the need for more sustainable approaches to managing resources. The coastal cleanup translated that broader message into direct action at the local level.

For Subang volunteers, the activity was also an opportunity to strengthen community-based environmental stewardship in Siquijor. By working directly along the shoreline, participants contributed to the immediate improvement of the coastal environment while promoting greater awareness of the effects of unmanaged waste.

The cleanup formed part of Subang's continuing environmental work across communities, demonstrating how volunteer action can support cleaner public spaces and encourage more responsible relationships with local ecosystems.
