Advancing Community Composting Through Training and Partnership

On December 16, 2024, Cebu Technological University - Barili Campus and the Barangay Council of Kalubihan conducted a Microbial Composting Training and Memorandum of Agreement signing at the CTU-Barili campus, with volunteers from Subang - Cebu Technological University Chapter participating in the activity.

The initiative was spearheaded by the CTU-Barili Resource Generation Office under Dr. Danny E. Carabio and Subang - Cebu Technological University Chapter. CTU-Barili Campus Director Dr. Romeo C. Lepiten opened the program, while Subang President Peter John C. Enorio delivered the statement of purpose.

Participants received technical sessions on the operation and maintenance of rotary composters and biomass shredders, followed by training on microbial composting and home-based composting techniques. The sessions included demonstrations at the Materials Recovery and Microbial Composting Facility.

A Pledge of Commitment was administered by Punong Barangay Hon. Rebecca S. Barbac, followed by the ceremonial signing of the commitment. The program concluded with the signing of a MOA between CTU-Barili Campus and the Barangay Council of Kalubihan to advance microbial composting initiatives in the community.

Participants also received seed compost as a starter agent for home-based microbial composting. The activity strengthened collaboration among the university, barangay, and Subang volunteers in promoting practical approaches to waste recovery and sustainable agriculture.
