Subang ECHO Launches with a Conversation on Food Security

On November 29, 2024, Subang - Cebu Technological University Chapter launched Subang ECHO: Shaping Tomorrow Today, a talk show series designed to bring conversations on sustainability, volunteerism, innovation, and community development to a wider audience.

The pilot episode, titled "Plant Box with Extended Lighting System (PBELS)," aired live on DYNE Radyo Kahimsog 97.5 from the CTU-Barili Campus. The episode explored the potential of PBELS as a practical approach to growing food in spaces where conventional agricultural production may be limited.

The episode was hosted by Subang President Peter John C. Enorio and Subang - CTU Human Resource Director Dennis B. Bendulo. Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual, a crop scientist and Subang adviser, served as the resource speaker and discussed the agricultural applications and potential of the system.

The discussion centered on how compact growing systems and appropriate lighting technologies could provide additional options for food production, particularly in urban or space-constrained settings. The episode connected the topic with broader conversations on food security, sustainable agriculture, and community self-reliance.

Subang - CTU Communications Associate Director Laurence Glenn B. Parojinog and Mr. Germie Carpentero of DYNE Radyo Kahimsog supported the broadcast, while the station's management and staff provided the platform for the program.

Subang ECHO established a new communication platform for sharing technical knowledge and community-oriented ideas. Through conversations with practitioners and resource persons, the series sought to make development issues more accessible while encouraging audiences to connect knowledge with practical action.
