Subang Eco-Pioneers Map Native Trees Through Geo-Tagging at CTU-Barili

Subang Philippines conducted a two-day geo-tagging initiative at Cebu Technological University - Barili Campus beginning February 14, 2024, focusing on documenting native trees and strengthening the organization's understanding of the campus ecosystem.

The project was led by Subang Co-Adviser Dr. Danny E. Carabio, with participation from Subang President Peter John C. Enorio, Environmental Affairs Vice-President Rodney Joseph Sundo, Community Affairs Deputy Director Jerecho Jose Sumalpong, Associate Director Roland Joshua Carbero, Human Resource Officer II Nikki Fe Moral, Junior Environmental Advocates Cheryl Rama and Gissa Mae Castino, and other participating volunteers.

The team focused on identifying and geo-tagging native trees within the campus, including Kamagong or Mabolo (Diospyros blancoi) and Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis). The activity sought to create a more accurate record of trees within the campus and strengthen awareness of its natural resources.

The collected information was intended for submission to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, providing a potential reference for broader environmental documentation and conservation efforts.

The geo-tagging activity complemented Subang's ongoing environmental work at CTU-Barili, including its riparian restoration and bamboo propagation initiatives. By combining field-based environmental action with documentation, the project demonstrated the value of understanding and recording local biodiversity as part of long-term stewardship.
