Subang Launches Its First Riparian Project at CTU-Barili

Subang Philippines launched its first riparian project on December 2, 2023 at the river of Cebu Technological University - Barili Campus, beginning a focused effort to strengthen the ecological condition of the riverbank through bamboo planting.

Led by the Subang Environmental Affairs Department, the initiative centered on establishing bamboo along the riparian zone of the campus river. The project was designed to contribute to the restoration and protection of the river edge while creating a living landscape that supports the broader environmental condition of the campus.

Riparian areas form an important transition between land and waterways. Maintaining vegetation along these areas can help protect riverbanks and strengthen the ecological functions of waterways. For Subang, the project provided an opportunity to translate environmental advocacy into a long-term, hands-on restoration effort.

The initiative also established an early foundation for Subang's subsequent environmental activities at CTU-Barili, including bamboo propagation, tree growing, site maintenance, geo-tagging, and water-source conservation.

As Subang's first riparian project, the initiative marked an important step in the organization's environmental sustainability work. What began along the CTU-Barili river would continue through succeeding activities focused on restoring vegetation, engaging students, and encouraging practical environmental stewardship within the university community.
