Propagating Black Bamboo for a More Resilient Landscape

On October 19, 2024, Subang - Cebu Technological University Chapter conducted a black bamboo propagation activity at the CTU-Barili Campus, contributing to the chapter's continuing work in environmental restoration and sustainable land management.

The activity focused on harvesting and propagating black bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra), a species recognized for its distinctive dark culms and strength. Beyond its ornamental value, bamboo can contribute to soil stabilization and erosion control when appropriately integrated into landscapes and restoration efforts.

The activity was facilitated by Subang President Peter John C. Enorio, SEAD Deputy Director Augustin P. Tapinit, SEAD Associate Director Dennis B. Bendulo, SCAD Vice-President Joshua Ray P. Calago, and SED Vice-President Cedrick B. Parojinog, with the participation of Volunteer Interns Kesiah C. Montesuso, Shaina Faith D. Visorro, and James Adam P. Posas.

Together, the volunteers harvested and propagated bamboo planting materials, strengthening the chapter's practical approach to environmental stewardship and demonstrating how sustained volunteer action can contribute to long-term ecological goals.
